Join a Committee

In addition to volunteering to help with specific events, we have several areas that we need help with ongoing. Consider joining one (or more!) of these committees to help us be able to cover even more areas and assist the school on a broader scale. We appreciate any and all support you can provide on these committees! Please do not feel overwhelmed - there will be a PTA Board Member chairing each committee to provide guidance and support. Committee members will not be solely responsible for the events noted within their committee descriptions - we will always encourage additional volunteer support.

Please read through the available committee descriptions and click the button below to indicate interest and a member of our board will be in touch! Thank you in advance for your interest in helping us have an unforgettable school year!

Westy Welcome Group

Our mission is simple but powerful: to ensure every family at West Towson Elementary feels seen, heard, and valued. We partner with Mr. Barnett, the PTA Board, and a growing team of parent volunteers to build a welcoming, inclusive, and connected school community. Whether you’re brand-new to WTES or simply looking for support, we’re here to answer questions and help families get oriented to both the school and the broader Towson community. We want the Westy Welcome Group to reflect the full diversity of our school - across grades, neighborhoods, languages, and lived experiences. Each year, we host several events to help families connect, including:  a Westy Welcome Playdate before school starts, a parent contact list included in new student registration packets, and a virtual Q&A session for parents. Throughout the year, we also take on smaller projects to strengthen connections and support one another.  Joining is simple - sometimes just being available to answer another parent’s question is one of the most meaningful ways to volunteer. PTA membership is not required to participate in this group. Together, we can make WTES an even more welcoming and supportive place for every family.

Events Planning

The Events Planning Committee brings our school community together by organizing and executing memorable PTA events throughout the year. This group is responsible for brainstorming creative ideas, planning logistics, and ensuring every detail runs smoothly. Committee members may coordinate with vendors when needed, manage event setup, and handle cleanup afterward. Whether it’s a family social, fundraiser, or community celebration, this team plays a vital role in creating fun and engaging experiences for students, families, and staff.

5th Grade Activities

Oversees the PTA's responsibilities for 5th-grade activities and events; may included: special event decorations, graduation refreshments, end-of-year pool party, and other events and celebrations.

Yearbook

The Yearbook Committee captures the memories that make each school year special! This group works together to collect photos, design pages, and organize the final publication for families to enjoy. Since our current yearbook lead is finishing their service after this year, we are looking for dedicated volunteers to join the committee now. This is the perfect opportunity to shadow, learn the process, and prepare to take over leadership for next year. Whether you enjoy photography, design, organization, or just want to help preserve our school’s story, the Yearbook Committee is a fun and meaningful way to get involved.

Fundraising

The Fundraising Committee plays a vital role in supporting our school by generating the resources that make so many of our programs possible. This team works together to brainstorm creative fundraising ideas, organize giveback events with local restaurants and businesses, and reach out to organizations for support. Members also help solicit in-kind donations, such as meals and treats for teacher appreciation, and coordinate other initiatives that directly benefit our students. By building strong community partnerships and finding fun, engaging ways to raise money, the Fundraising Committee helps ensure our PTA can continue to enrich the school experience for every child.

PTA Buzz Crew

Book Fair

The Buzz Crew is all about spreading the word! Members of this committee help share important PTA news and upcoming events with their own networks—whether that’s text groups, carpool chats, or parent friends at school. This extra word-of-mouth support helps make sure every family stays in the loop and no one misses out on opportunities to get involved. It’s a simple but powerful way to strengthen communication and build community.

We partner with school staff, teachers, and the PTA Board to host two Scholastic Book Fairs each year—one in the fall and one in the spring. These fairs are not only major fundraisers for the PTA but also help put books directly into the hands of West Towson Elementary School students to build their home libraries. There are many ways to get involved, from running the registers and restocking books between classes to helping students choose books that fit their budgets. Volunteer signups are circulated before each Book Fair.
